Starting therapy can feel like a big step. Here is a gentle overview of what usually happens in a first session, so you can walk in feeling a little more prepared.
It is okay to feel nervous
Most people feel a mix of hope and nervousness before a first session. Your therapist expects this, and there is no right way to begin. You can share as much or as little as feels comfortable.
What we will talk about
Your first session is mostly about getting to know you: what brings you in, what you would like to feel different, and any practical questions about scheduling, fees or confidentiality.
After the session
Notice how you feel afterwards. A good fit often feels like being heard without judgment. If something did not feel right, it is always okay to say so — therapy works best when it is collaborative.
